Does it really matter that Facebook is Meta now?

Facebook changing its name to Meta is no longer news for all of us. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook decided to rebrand the parent company to reflect its focus on “Metaverse”, primarily Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality experiences (VR). Before we move further, we would like to tell you that we are also still figuring it out just like you. But here’s a little information that might help you comprehend this entire idea behind the rebranding.

Rebranding

Now the umbrella over Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, and Messenger is Meta and none of these names are going to change. At present, the parent company officially across all the platforms reflects Meta instead of Facebook. In the past, the focus of the company has been the Facebook app. But as it grew and sprawled its wings it changed. Now meta’s focus is to bring the metaverse to life and help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses immensely.

What’s Metaverse now?

At first it sounds like a complex science fiction concept straight out of the movies but surprisingly it isn’t. The Metaverse is more of a hybrid of today’s online social experiences, expanded into three dimensions or sometimes experienced into the physical world. It will allow you to share engaging content with others even when it’s not possible for you to be together — and do things that you would not be able to do in the physical world. It’s the next step in a long line of social technologies, ushering in a new era. Virtual meetings, virtual gatherings, virtual discussions have become a bit more realistic with technological advancements. But currently, just a handful of people are into AR/VR. And Meta is betting that people will soon get into it with time. Hence this entire rebranding game!

Now What?

It feels like experiencing everything that Meta will support is still a far-fetched dream as of now. The ‘Now What’ is about how many marketers and advertisers fit in here who majorly are dependent on these platforms. To understand this they need to visualize something that doesn’t exist yet. However, if social media and the web begin to merge on this Metaverse-like experience, our lives would drastically be altered.

It definitely will not be like the online experiences we are having now. Instead, it will be like everyone wearing a headset, sitting virtually in a room together, immersed in some different world. But the main thing is to remain prepared and be ready to accept the big shift. We are sure Meta has a better plan for all of us than what we could think of now. After all, we can’t do things the way we have always been doing. Change is inevitable!
