For over a year, we have seen our life change right in front of us. From being able to travel all around the globe, to being confined in our own homes. With the pandemic hitting our travels hard, it has also changed the way we work.
With the ever growing need of working from home, we bring you some steps that might help you to get accustomed to your new office, i.e your home.
Fix a designated workspace:
Like you have a designated workspace in your office, assign a designated workspace in your home too. Sitting down in this space gives a signal to your brain that it’s time to focus. Avoid using the space when not working.
Set a schedule:
Set a concrete plan each day and put it in writing. Create a to-do list and break it down according to the priorities.
Eat your meals on time:
Plan your meals ahead of time, like before you sit down to work. This will help you to concentrate better and stops you from working to the point of hunger. You should also avoid eating at your workstation
Own your own time
While working at home, you may find yourself with your family members in your workspace. Set boundaries and manage expectations of everyone who demands your time.
Don’t forget to socialize
Don’t forget to break the monotony of work by socializing with your colleagues. When the whole office suddenly starts working from home, you’re cutting off your usual casual social interactions you have throughout the day.
Make clear transactions in and out of work
Your morning commute not only takes you from one location to another, but also prepares your mind for work. Since you are now working from home, you need to carve out equivalent routines to help you ease into your workday.
Define your work hours
Just like you have defined your workspace, you need to define your work hours. You should be clear when you are working and when you are not. To add to it, if your work is collaborative, being on the same schedule with your coworkers will make everything much more easy and convenient.
The current situation may not be what we planned or may not be what we asked for, but we can certainly make the most use of it. You might have trouble adjusting to your new workspace, so just give yourself time to adjust to your new work life.
This may not be the ideal situation for you to work, but you will be able to find a sweet spot between your office life and your work life.
We’re all in this in together. Stay Home, Stay Safe
